Implementation of the Magelang UMKM RKU-K

Thursday, June 4, 2015, IDEA held a “Workshop on the Preparation of Multi-Party Roles and Commitments to Support the Implementation of the Regional Business Sustainability Plan (RKU – K) for MSMEs in Magelang Regency”. The workshop was attended by 37 participants consisting of MSME actors; government; universities; banking; insurance companies and BUMN in Magelang and was held at the Artos Hotel Magelang from 09.00 – 16.00 WIB. This activity is a series of activities to prepare the RKUK documents for two MSMEs (Slondok and Salak) which have been carried out together by IDEA – Oxfam and BPBD.

This workshop was opened directly by Mr. Drs. Sujadi as the Head of BPBD Magelang Regency who said that Magelang Regency is a disaster laboratory because several disaster threats exist here, including floods, landslides, volcanic eruptions and tornadoes. Therefore, all stakeholders in Magelang must be disaster-responsive, including MSMEs. Learning from the Merapi eruption in 2010, until now MSMEs are still trying to recover from the impact of the disaster. Therefore, the preparation of this RKUK is important to realize disaster-resilient MSMEs. In addition, it is hoped that with this RKUK document in the future when a disaster occurs, stakeholders related to MSMEs will know the role of each party to take pre-disaster and post-disaster actions.

Lukman Hakim, as the facilitator, also emphasized what was conveyed by Mr. Sujadi that with the conditions in Magelang, it is necessary to compile a role map and joint commitment of multi-stakeholders to realize resilient MSMEs. It was conveyed that the potential that is owned will not necessarily make MSMEs resilient to disasters, therefore a joint commitment is needed to contribute to the implementation of this Regional Business Sustainability Plan.

This was agreed by Agus, a Salak UMKM actor who said that learning from what they experienced when the Merapi eruption disaster took 2 years to recover from the impact of the disaster. Therefore, with the RKUK document that has been prepared by UMKM actors, it is hoped that it can provide an overview to relevant stakeholders to prepare policies and interventions during a disaster.

Armed with the experience of dealing with the 2010 Merapi eruption disaster, workshop participants are committed to implementing the RKUK document that has been prepared by compiling several steps, namely forming a joint team that will oversee the implementation of the RKUK. This joint team consists of elements of BPBD, Deperindagkop, UMM, Bappeda, UMKM Salak, UMKM Slondok and Bapas. BPBD agreed to facilitate the first meeting and become the driving force of this joint team. (TSW)
