Yogyakarta, IDEA – The Indonesian Blind Association (Pertuni) and the Indonesian Deaf Welfare Movement (Gerkatin) are the next targets of the Advocating for Change (AFC) program. Taking place in the hall of the Kadipaten sub-district, Kraton, Yogyakarta on Friday (27/08), this activity is still related to the Review of Organizational Rules. Pertuni and Gerkatin are vulnerable group organizations that are also included in the assistance of IDEA Yogyakarta, Humanity and Inclusion and CIQAL in the AFC program.
The Organizational Rules Review itself is one of a series of activities in the AFC Program. As the name of the program suggests, this activity is intended to increase the capacity (skills) of organizational members in advocating for the fulfillment of the rights of vulnerable groups. In addition to disabilities, vulnerable groups in this program also include female heads of households and the poor.
Romadhon, a blind person and administrator of Pertuni explained that his organization has been established since 1966 in Surakarta. In DIY, Pertuni is present in all districts/cities up to the province. While at the national level, Pertuni is present in almost all provinces and is coordinated by the Central administrator.
The basic obstacles often experienced by Pertuni members, according to their presentation in group discussions, are the many organizational administrators who are busy working outside and the difficulty of reaching transportation facilities when carrying out activities. They offered a solution so that the Pertuni organizational secretariat was made more accessible to public facilities, especially vehicles.

Meanwhile, Hastu, the Gerkatin administrator, when guided by Rezi, a sign language interpreter, explained that Gerkatin is an organization for deaf people with disabilities that was founded in 1988. Although younger than Pertuni, Gerkatin also has branch offices and administrators in almost all regions of Indonesia.
When asked to explain the obstacles in running the Gerkatin organization, Hastu said that in terms of organizational structure there were relatively no problems. However, according to him, the problem was related to program creation. The cause, continued Hastu, was due to the minimal role and human resources of the management and the lack of ability to compile organizational programs.
