The Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Perkumpulan IDEA held the 2017 National Greget Desa Workshop with the theme “Managing Village Resources to Reduce Inequality and Increase Welfare” in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) Province.
Greget Desa 2017 is the result of IDEA's collaborative efforts with the DIY Provincial Government, various NGOs and community group networks supported by the Ford Foundation. This event aims to disseminate IDEA's work with strategic partners and to gather the best ideas to overcome inequality and improve community welfare. Focusing on the DIY Provincial Government Office Complex and Dlingo Village, Dlingo District, Bantul Regency, this event will take place from 9 to 11 August 2017.
This event was attended by participants from various elements ranging from the central government, provincial government & district/city government which are the working areas of the SAPA Program, district/city government which are IDEA's working partners (outside the SAPA Program intervention), representatives of village governments, representatives of civil society organizations which are IDEA's working partners and various media representatives.
The workshop was officially opened with the beating of the gong in the opening ceremony at the Radyo Susoyo Building, DIY Provincial Government Office Complex at 09.00 WIB Wednesday, August 9, 2017 by the Deputy Governor of DIY Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Adipati Aryo (KGPAA) Paku Alam X.
Through his opening remarks, IDEA Director Sunarja hoped that Greget Desa 2017 could become a forum for sharing good practices from various regions in efforts to overcome poverty and reduce social inequality.
"It is hoped that this can be a joint event to share regional good practices in overcoming poverty, and reducing inequality and welfare," he said.
Greget Desa is right to be implemented in DIY, considering that this region has a fairly high poverty rate at 13.02% according to BPS data. This high poverty rate even exceeds the national average of 10.64%. This is certainly a big job for the central government in general and the DIY government in particular.
"Poverty is the job of the Indonesian government and local governments. BPS data shows that the poverty rate in March 2017 reached 10.64% while DIY was 13.02%."
The speech was in line with the keynote speech written by the Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, entitled "DIY's Efforts to Reduce Inequality". The keynote speech was read by the Deputy Governor. In his writing, the governor said that in addition to the advantages of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, there are various prominent problems such as inequality. Therefore, the Governor proposed various steps to overcome this, one of which is by making inequality the main theme of development.
"The condition of DIY, besides having advantages, also has high inequality, both in terms of community and regional income," he wrote.
The opening ceremony then ended with a dance drama performance from Klonorejo, Dlingo village.
